ATTN Richmond Seniors

Safe Fall Skills Series

After the clinic: six weeks of real progression.

For seniors who need fall skills that actually progress. Six weeks from crash mats toward standing falls on regular mats. $149 for the course. Spotter comes for free.

Who this is for

Seniors — ready for real progression after the clinic.

Why you need it

The free hour introduces the skill. If near-falls or fear of falling are already changing daily life, you need progressive practice — standing falls, harder surfaces — so the habits hold when it counts.

This is you if

  • You’re a senior (or applying with one) and want more than a one-hour intro
  • You’ve done the free clinic — or a coach says you’re ready — and want the next step
  • You need the work to progress: standing falls on regular mats, not the same soft drill forever

Bring a family spotter (aged 10+). They train with you every week. Spotter comes for free.

Why six weeks

Progression means the work gets harder — on purpose.

We don’t park you on crash mats doing the same drill for six weeks. You start low and soft, then coaches raise the demand: higher starts, standing falls, and eventually regular matted floors. Form first. Height and surface second. If we can’t coach that progression safely in a small group, we won’t sell you a seat.

What you’ll be able to do

Four skills. Coach-checked by week six.

Under coach supervision at the end of the series, a typical graduating pair can demonstrate:

  1. 01

    Fall from standing with control

Not stuck on the floor forever — progress to coached standing falls when form is ready.

  2. 02

    Land on regular matted floors

Graduate off crash mats onto standard academy mats for fall work — closer to real-world demand.

  3. 03

Get up from the floor with support

Wall or chair assist is fine. Stand again without being physically lifted.

  4. 04

    Spotter cues that actually help

Your spotter guides momentum with clear roles — not hovering and hoping.

We do not promise you’ll never fall, or that you’ll be injury-proof. We promise progressive practice toward standing falls on regular mats — not magic.

How we deliver

Standards we hold every cohort to.

Crash mats → regular mats

Crash mats early, when the skill is new. As form holds, coaches move fall work onto regular matted floors. That’s the point of progression.

Max 10 pairs

Twenty people max. Small enough that coaching is real, not a lecture from the side.

Specialist coaches

Led or directly supervised by a Judo black belt with over 25 years of Judo experience, and a BJJ coach with over 15 years of personal training experience.

Spotter required

Participant and family spotter (aged 10+) train together every week. Spotter comes for free.

Progression over ego

Coaches hold you at a stage until form is safe — then raise height and harden the surface. Missed weeks get a make-up or catch-up cue before harder drills.

Same safety screen

Medical screening before you join. If the group series isn’t a fit, we say so — we don’t take the seat.

The six weeks

What each week builds.

Height and surface progress. Coached. Checked — not the same drill on loop.

  1. Week 1

    Foundations + spotter roles

Floor confidence on crash mats. Spotter cues locked in. Clinic basics made automatic.

  2. Week 2

    Seated / kneeling breakfalls

Crash mats. Backward and side patterns — protect head, hips, wrists from low starts.

  3. Week 3

    From low stance → higher

Raise the start height on crash mats. Link descent + impact without freezing.

  4. Week 4

    Standing falls on crash mats

First coached falls from standing — still on crash mats while the pattern hardens.

  5. Week 5

    Standing → regular matted floor

Graduate surface: standing fall work moves onto regular academy mats when form is ready.

  6. Week 6

    Integration + graduation check

Standing falls on regular mats. Get-up. Spotter roles. Coach sign-off under supervision.

Questions

Before you commit

Who is this for?
Seniors — especially with near-falls or fading balance confidence — and the family who trains with them. For people who want progressive training beyond a one-hour intro. Apply for yourself or with family. Participant is a senior; family spotter (aged 10+) trains with them. Spotter comes for free.
Is this the free clinic?
No. The free clinic is a separate one-hour intro at /safe-fall. This page is the paid 6-week Skills Series — the natural next step after the clinic, when you’re ready for progressive weekly training.
Do I have to do the free clinic first?
Strongly recommended. The clinic screens fit and introduces the work. If you’ve already trained with us, ask a coach whether you can enter a series cohort directly.
What am I paying for?
$149 is for the course — six coached sessions of progressive work from crash mats toward standing falls on regular matted floors, small-group coaching (max 10 pairs), and a week-6 skill check. Spotter comes for free. Not a certificate. Not a guarantee you’ll never fall.
When do I pay?
After we confirm screening and cohort fit. Apply first — we don’t take payment for a seat we can’t deliver properly.
What if I miss a week?
Tell us early. We’ll arrange a make-up or catch-up cue before you move into harder drills. Showing up matters — this is progressive skill work, not a drop-in gym.
